The Route:
The ride combines some road riding and a climb up Takaka Hill looking over Tasman Bay and the Abel Tasman National Park.
Support Crews
Note that the race starts and finishes at the Kaiteriteri Domain at Kaiteriteri Beach.
All support vehicles will be provided, including first aid and communication systems. If you have a problem, use them.
No private support vehicles are permitted on the route.
Equipment and Clothing
As the date for the ride is ANZAC weekend (late Autumn) and climbs up Takaka Hill it is suggested that riders prepare for changeable weather.
- You must wear a safety standard approved helmet at all times during the race.
- Appropriate clothing for the conditions e.g. if cool do not wear cotton shirts rather polypropylene clothing is suggested.
- Cycle gloves and shorts with chammy, are suggested.
- Carry a wind and waterproof jacket & a survival blanket.
- It is suggested that you carry at least one litre of fluid to drink.
- Carry energy snacks and eat/graze throughout the race.
- Carry enough tools to keep your bike in working condition, ask at your bike shop for details if in doubt.
- Every effort will be made to ensure that road vehicular traffic is not an issue. However you are required when on the road to follow the road rules i.e. stay left at all times and if crossing look both ways to ensure no vehicles are coming towards you.
- If you must stop for whatever reason leave your bike beside the road so that the support crew can account for you.
- Please ensure that your ride number is attached to the front of your bike.
- Please ensure you have a comfortable seat.
Prize Giving
Prize giving will be at the completion of the race in Kaiteriteri at the Beached Whale.
This is the café attached to the Kaiteri Lodge. Plenty of food and beverages will be available.
There will be travel prizes to the winners and plus other spot prizes.
The pre-entry fee is $50 per rider. Pre entries close on 22nd April, the late entry fee and On the Day entries will be $60 per rider. All profits made will go directly to the further development of the Jack Inglis Friendship Hospital in Motueka.
